I was sitting outside perusing through a magazine this morning while I enjoyed my morning coffee and came across a statement that kind of stuck in my mind.
It was an article on "living a passionate life' and the writer made the following statement:
"You do what you WANT from passion, but you do what you HAVE to out of sense of obligation"
Really it's not a life alterting statement, it's quite a basic principle actually, but I really helps simplify many of the questions of life when you look at things from this perspective.
We've made a lot of committments that we've been kind of re-evaluating lately due to the lack of time we seem to no longer have. We've been busy, so naturally it's a good time to re-evalutate where we're spending our time and in thinking through things from this perspective it really helps narrow down the things that maybe we really should give up versus the things that we truly do love that don't feel like an obligation.
Naturally when you're doing something because it's a passion of yours rather than simply an obligation it doesn't feel like such a burden. Of course there's things in life that have to get done and you can't escape, but I never want to look back on my life see that I lived a life that didn't bear any fruit simply becuase I was busy doing "stuff" rather than being a good steward of my time AND talents that allowed God to use me to the fullest. It's so easy to make life so complex when I don't think that was ever God's heart.
Anyway....just some thoughts from my saturday cup of coffee for ya'll to sip on.
